R*n 205: Bassenthwaite

Sunday 26th November 2006 at 11:00am Weekend

We were all assembled at the meeting-point waiting for Madge and Sid to turn up – yes, that’s right, the award-winning orienteers of our group managed to get lost before the r*n had started. This may have been attributable to the accident at the end of the road. Incidentally, (pardon the pun) it may been caused by the ‘LVH3’ sign distracting an inquisitive motorist. With this in mind, Lurch took it upon himself to remove the offending article before the police removed us.

The pre-run argument was held between Bubbles and ForeverBlowing: ForeverBlowing was insistent that there be a beer/cake stop – to which Bubbles agreed on the grounds that it would mean he could consume all the cake while everyone else was out r*nning. Once he had the buckets safely stowed in his boot, he said the beer/cake stop wouldn’t be happening, and it was only after instruction had been given by Antiseptic that in no way, shape or form were we going to be deprived of our cake, that Bubbles caved in and agreed to the beer/cake stop (which I am convinced was happening all along). In the absence of MajorTwit and Twisted, girl power reigned.

The r*n was a very shiggy one at first, but then we took to the hills – just what we needed after a night of eating, drinking, singing and dancing – not.

After many a check and false trail, we were led to a viewpoint to look at some very illusive ospreys – which only our RSPB representative (Antiseptic) saw – the other illusive birds on the r*n were DoughnutSlut who assured us that the church in the valley-bottom was well worth a visit; and CumsLate who thought that the ‘V’ sign for the viewpoint was for ‘vegetarians’, and proceeded to have a rest on the bench waiting for the remainder of the hash to catch up with her.

The beer/cake stop was held in a car park with luxury heated facilities – a first for lots of us! The bucket was sadly depleted, with only alcohol or ginger beer – its not easy, is it? This was made up for by the large spread of cakes, which Bubbles had managed to resist consuming or stashing.

DownDowns were awarded to the following miscreants:

  • Highway: sloping off to bed before the party started the night before
  • Dormouse: FRB.
  • Quote of the day: “We usually r*n in the same county” Baldbrick
  • Antiseptic: Not kissing Madge at the kissing gate and then giving lame excuses as to why she hadn’t.
